The GSI concept was created January 2006 by its founder, Eric L. Douglass, Sr. The concepts were tested on several controlled environments as a sole proprietorship. The information gleaned from those tests created the methods as they are used today and GSI was founded as a corporation in April 2007. GSI uses its investors' monies to finance its clients and that investor pool is coordinated by GSI's other founder, Bernard Caplan.

GSI specializes in disadvantaged businesses in the construction section in the Mid-Atlantic region; however, GSI works with clients who work nationally. GSI is involved in some major developments in the Mid-Atlantic region.
